The Center for Sustainable Health (CSH) was established in 2009 at Arizona State University’s Biodesign Institute thanks to the generous financial support of the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust.
Originating as the Partnership for Personalized Medicine (PPM), a three-way collaboration among the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and the Biodesign Institute, the Center for Sustainable Health is now located at the Biodesign Institute. Our Chief Scientist is Dr. Lee Hartwell, who is the Virginia G. Piper Chair in Personalized Medicine, the former President of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the 2001 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine. Dr. Michael Birt is Center Director and the Founding Executive Director of the Pacific Health Summit.
Instead of building our own laboratory and dedicated faculty, we create innovative partnerships with forward thinking individuals, institutions and companies. We prefer to access the best people and resources through our local, national and global network of connections and colleagues.
